Trained by Sandy Adsett, Manos Nathan & Colleen Urlich. Andrea is an artist, curator and arts promoter.
Painting since 1998. She attended NorthTec, Toihoukura in Gisborne and Toimairangi in Hastings. Then, gained her graduate diploma in secondary teaching via the Christchurch College of Education.
First patron, Kevyn Male 2002. First representative dealer gallery, Studio of Contemporary Art, Auckland 2002-2008. First solo show, 2003 with SOCA Gallery.
Hopkins has consistently shown her artwork nationally and internationally since 2001. Her current show is a Retrospective Exhibition spanning 16 years of her career at the Whangarei Art Museum.
She is the first living, local artist to be invited to have a retrospective show onsite in their 20-year history.
Andrea was recently recognised by the national Arts organisation, Creative New Zealand and given the opportunity to create new large and personally experimental works on board.
She will have that series of 8 paintings tentatively titled ‘Also Påkeha’, each piece being 2400 x 1220mm in size, completed by April 2019.
